Carey & Laszewski: The Homeowners
"
Our primary goal is to demonstrate that the environmental impact of homes can be decreased substantially without high priced consultants, experts, and materials. These homes can fit into existing neighborhoods and do not have to look like space ships. Our home is making progress toward responsible resource use and getting our household energy from the footprint of our property."
Wicklow Development Group: The Builder
"As a restoration contractor and period home builder, one of our goals is to dispel the conception that a ‘green’ house means modern architecture. Fitting a new construction home into a neighborhood of century old homes creates a challenge for designers and builders. We want to demonstrate that you can build a beautiful, traditional looking home, with a green design and features, without having to make an architectural statement that says, “I’m new and energy efficient.” It can be new, eco-friendly and efficient and at the same time traditional and in keeping with the character of the community.
LEED for Homes is a new certification by the USGBC. We hope that the ideals it promotes will become more mainstream over time, creating an environment with fewer barriers and greater supports for green building. Going forward, we intend to advocate for green construction with our clients and to incorporate as many sustainable elements into the build process as possible."
